SCENIC DRIVE TO POAS:  After a 7:30 am pick-up from your hotel we’ll travel 11 miles on the Pan American Highway to the provincial capital of Alajuela to see 2 points of interest your knowledgeable guide will tell you about. From here our scenic drive towards the Poás Volcano Cloud Forest National Park takes us up the slopes of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range through beautiful landscape adorned with coffee, dairy, strawberry, flower and fern farms in addition to quaint typical small towns with well-kept homes.

COFFEE PLANTATION SHOP to sample and purchase if you wish top quality roasted coffee while taking in the beautiful views of the rolling landscape of coffee plantations and of the Central Valley below.

POAS VOLCANO:  At approximately 9:30 a.m. we’ll enter the cloud forest of the Poás Volcano National Park where we'll walk 500 scenic yards on a flat paved pathway to the crater, located at a cool 8,900 ft. above sea level.  Your guide will show you the beautiful giant leaves of the “Poor Man’s Umbrella” plant, epiphytes (air plants) and other plant species unique to the lush tropical cloud forest ecosystem that lines the walk to the crater.  From the crater’s rim you’ll have the unique experience of  looking down 500 ft. into an active volcano crater that's nearly 3/4 of a mile in diameter and constantly emitting sulfur fumes and steam.  The crater's array of colorful rock strata, aqua green colored acid lake surrounded by tropical could forest and barren old lava floe rock formations together with the spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, gives your experienced professional guide plenty to tell you about. View of the crater cannot be guaranteed due to weather conditions.

VIEW STOPS:  After leaving Poás around 10:30 a.m. we'll make brief stops with a fantastic high view of the central valley below.

WATERFALL GARDENS:  Later by way of a scenic mountain road we'll visit the spectacular La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
This impressive 78 acre Rainforest Preserve has 5 waterfalls of which 3 are currently accessible in addition to Monkey exhibits,
Butterfly Observatory, Hummingbird Garden, Serpentarium, Frog Exhibit, Typical Costa Rican Farm House, Wild Tropical Cats from Jaguars and Ocelots to Pumas.

The La Paz Waterfall Gardens offers; 3 waterfalls, Rainforest, safe hiking trails, aviary with 40 species of birds, toucan feeding on your arm, insect exhibit, butterfly observatory and butterfly gardens, butterfly laboratory, Capuchin (white-throated) monkeys, black-handed spider monkeys, hummingbird garden with 26 documented species, serpentarium (snake exhibit), Jaguar, pumas, ocelots, margays, replica of a typical old Costa Rican farm house, ox cart (with oxen) you can ride on and photograph, leaf and poison dart frog exhibits, orchid exhibit, heliconia exhibit and bromeliad exhibit.  Optional Buffet lunch with variety of food from delicious typical Costa Rican food with Rice and beans with choice of meats of beef, chicken or pork, salads and vegetables, to great fresh pizza by the slice, to French fries and hot dogs. All of these offered at one place makes it the best eco park and the most visited private attraction in Costa Rica.  A moderate amount of walking is involved through the animal exhibits and lots of steps mostly down to the waterfalls in the rainforest, finishing with some 90 steps slightly up to the shuttle bus station for a ½ mile or 800 meter ride back via public road to the reception to avoid the 500 steps back up from the last waterfall to the reception and the parking lot.

The entrance alone is a $42/person value and with lunch a $56/person value all included in your tour price, along with other entrances such as Poás Volcano or the Doka Coffee tour among the many other attractions that be combined with the waterfall gardens on full day tours.
